ELECTROCONVULSIVE THERAPY: Information for Patients and their Families (12 minutes) Explains what ECT is, how it can help a patient, and what can be expected from the procedure.  Also includes information on precautions when considering ECT.

 

GAINING GROUND:  Rights for Consumers of Mental health Services in Wisconsin (19 minutes) Consumers, an attorney, and service providers highlight the importance of recognizing patients’ rights in various settings.

 

HOW TO MANAGE MEDICATIONS (27 minutes) This video program teaches safe practices for administering and storing various types of medications.  Warning signs of improper use are also provided.

 

RECOGNIZING EXTRAPYRAMIDAL SYMPTOMS (20 minutes) Provides clinical examples of side effects of antipsychotic medications – dystonia, akathisia, Parkinsonism, and tardive dyskinesia.

 

THE RIGHT DRUG (20 minutes) Provides information on a specific antipsychotic medication, Seroquel. Also useful in understanding how to measure risks and benefits of changing medications.

 

THE SAVVY PATIENT (30 minutes) Program looks at the doctor/patient relationship and offers viewers suggestions about how to collaborate with their physicians.

 

UNDERSTANDING MENTAL HEALTH CARE  (15-minute video and pamphlet) The video assists people in understanding when involvement with a mental health professional may be appropriate, questions to ask a potential therapist, and what you can expect from therapy.

 

UNDERSTANDING PSYCHOTHERAPY: Treatments for Mental Health Problems (7 minutes) Provides basic information about psychotherapy and would be useful to anyone who is thinking about seeking help from a psychiatrist or psychotherapist.
