Mindful Mondays: Back to School Transitions

It may be hard to believe, but somehow it is already mid-September and the fall season is upon us. While we enjoy the changing of the weather (while hoping summer hangs on as long as it can!), the changing of the leaves, and our first sips of a pumpkin spice latte, many of us are also working through the "back-to-school" transition. 

 

Whether you have a young learner just beginning school, you've sent your young adult off to college, or you're navigating anywhere in between, this time can be tough for families. New schools, new teachers, a change in the family dynamics- whatever it is, we believe that mindfulness can be an important tool during this time.

 

MHA is excited to begin its third year of the Mindful Classroom Initiative in schools throughout the area this fall, but there are plenty of ways that you can practice and reinforce mindfulness at home, too!

 

One simple way to bring mindfulness into everyday life with kids is by reading books about mindfulness. There are so many great ones out there. Here at MHA, we are big fans of the books I am Peace by Susan Verde, Meditation is an Open Sky by Whitney Stewart, and Sitting Still Like a Frog by Eline Snel. MHA Sheboygan is also excited to be partnering with Mead Public Library for a few Sundown Storytimes focusing on mindfulness. Join us at 6:30 pm in the Children's Story Garden (3rd floor) on Thursday, October 11th and Thursday, November 8th!
